Weekly Update: Supporting Local Organisations In Julianstown & Stamullen, Planting & Supplier Sundays

Charity Begins At Home

We are delighted to be supporting Julianstown Youth Orchestra performing at the City North Hotel, with a donation of two of our beautiful bouquets to present to their conductors on the night.  Every month we make a contribution to a local not-for-profit organization. Last month we were delighted to supply bouquets to the fantastic Oskars Night event in the City North Hotel for St. Patrick’s GAA club in Stamullen. There was a phenomenal turnout on the night, and they raised buckets of money for a new gym, and we were delighted to be involved.

In March, we supplied daffodils to the East Meath Hospice for their annual Coffee Morning, which also raises an eye-watering amount of money for a much needed local service.

Planting

We’ve been transplanting seedlings that we started in the spring into the ground for the remainder of the growing season. Sweet William because it’s such a timeless favourite, Scabiosa for those lovely pillowy deep burgundies and soft pinks, Ammi Magus for lacy filler, snap dragons for colour and Amaranthus’ long dreadlocks for something completely different… of course the list could go on and on, but we have to draw the line somewhere.

Outside in the field we’ve sown the first batch of sunflowers which we hope to start harvesting in last August. If we get a good enough strike, we’ll open up the field for a little Pick-Your-Own event in the autumn.

Right beside the sunnies, Stamullen contractor Thomas White & Sons planted our first ever attempt at a Maze in the Maize…no pressure! We planted nearly 100,000 seeds in a criss-cross pattern, doubling the normal density, in an attempt to make the resulting plantation as impenetrable as possible. We will come along in a month or so’s time to cut out the actual pathways – that’ll be a headache for someone (that’s you Darragh!).

Meet The Supplier Sundays

Starting this Sunday, we hope to start a Meet the Supplier Sunday slot on our Facebook and Instagram pages to give you a look behind the scenes at all the work that our wonderful local suppliers put into the ever-expanding range of products in our shop.

Week one kicks off with Mark Delaney of Delaney’s Designs. Farming just over the road beside Mosney, Mark takes fallen trees from around his farm and turns them into fab giftware.

From a point a few years ago when he had never pared as much as a pencil, he now churns out bespoke bowls, clocks, boards and much more from his little workshop at the back of his home.
